The Eden Farm

Project Profile

Chimoio Mozambique
Description

Provide general support for the Eden Farm

Purpose

The purpose of this project is to provide for the ongoing day-to-day expenses that will be incurred in the management of the Eden Farm near Chimoio, Mozambique.  Safari Insight Mission, Inc. and Good News For Africa purchased the Eden Farm in 2007. It is located approximately 25 kilometers northwest of Chimoio, Mozambique. Chimoio is the capital city of the Manica province and is located in the central area of the country. This area is rich in agricultural lands and indigenous forests. There are many new farming ventures being started in the area but they are mostly owned by foreign interests (Zimbabwe, South Africa, Denmark). While these larger farming interests are hiring Mozambican workers, there are very few Mozambicans who actually farm their own land. The intent of the farm is to provide a training ground for Mozambique nationals who wish to engage in various agricultural enterprises to improve the human capital of the nation. You can view pictures of Eden Farm in the Gallery Section.

Scope

The scope of this project is to provide for day-to-day expenses related to management of the Eden Farm.  The extent of these expenses is not yet known but will likely include salaries for hired hands, fuel costs for farm vehicles, feed, taxes, insurance, etc.  It is anticipated that many of the items required for getting the training facilities up and running will be covered by other one-time-expense projects.  Additional details will be made available as soon as they are known.

Timeline

Groundwork for establishing the training facilities at the Eden Farm will begin by the summer of 2010.  Test crops of Eucalyptus, corn, and pineapple have already been planted and are doing well.  If you would like to donate to the ongoing support needs of the Eden Farm, please click the donate button below:
