Doug and Quaye Berry - Forwarding Agents/Financial Secretary

We have known Al and Velma for many years as members of Northside Christian Church in Broken Arrow, OK. Doug and Al worked for the same company for over 20 years and Velma and Quaye worked side by side for many years in the Camp Fire organization as advisors for our daughters and other young girls.

On a personal level, we have been married over 31 years and have three wonderful children (Annette, David, and Jonathan), and two beautiful grandchildren (Tyler and Ryleigh) and another one (Brody) due in October 2008. We have been active at Northside Christian Church for all of those 31 years. We have worked side by side as Jr. High youth sponsors, Sunday School teachers for Jr. High and Young Adult, and small group leaders. We have been on many short term mission triDoug and Quaye Berry - Forwarding Agentsps to Mexico since 1996, serving as workers, trip leaders, and co-leaders and we have also worked with our local John 3:16 mission in their community outreach program which works with under-privileged children, youth, and at-risk teens. Quaye has planned and organized our Mexico trips for about the last 5 years and has worked closely with two sister churches in Nuevo Laredo to help them build a VBS program in their neighborhoods. We have witnessed this program grow in these two churches from about 80 kids the first year between them to current enrollments running between 250 and 300. Doug has also served as a Deacon at Northside and has been active on the worship team for many years singing and playing guitar. Currently, Quaye is an HR assistant at a local hospital in Tulsa, OK and Doug works for IBM as a Systems Management Specialist (whatever that is).

When Al first approached us about coming on board with Safari Insight Mission, we hadn't talked to them since they moved away to Wyoming after Al's retirement. Al conveyed the story to us that he was on his way home from Mozambique after his 2006 trip and was sitting on the plane asking God to find him someone that would be able to analyze, conceptualize, and understand the things that Al had observed in Mozambique, and most importantly, wouldn't say no to the work that needed to be done. For some reason (right!!) our names came to mind. Al said he couldn't understand why because he hadn't thought about us in several years, and we hadn't talked to one another much since our kids graduated from high school 10 years ago. So, Al took a chance and called us when he returned home from Mozambique. He sent us some material and we prayed for guidance. The rest is, as they say, history. We immediately saw the tremendous need for change in the mission work in Mozambique and the plans which God laid on Al's heart seemed to address that need. We couldn't say no. We are very excited to be a part of Safari Insight Mission because we believe this work is critical and vitally important not only to the people in South Africa and Mozambique, but to Christians everywhere. We are truly honored that God has brought us together again with Al and Velma and look forward to seeing what God will accomplish through this work. We understand completely that this is an overwhelming task and we are quite overwhelmed at the potential scope and scale of this mission effort. But, we also believe that is exactly where God wants us to be, overwhelmed....afterall, that is when He is able to accomplish more than we can ever hope or imagine.
